The plant produces 1.4 million kilowatt-hours per year and by the end of November 2009 has already saved the emission of about 70 tons of CO2. The project gives in Milan and Italy is also a European record: it is the first subway in Europe to work, even if only partially, due to energy of the sun. Elio Catania, president and CEO of ATM said that the launch of the photovoltaic roof of the deposit of shellfish is an important part of the energy efficiency plan developed by the ATM since 2008.
